Spring is finally here, and with it, some of OLL’s favorite sports teams! Here’s a quick synopsis on each of this season’s tremendous athletes:
Boys’ Varsity Tennis:
The Our Lady of Lourdes Tennis Team is excited for their upcoming 2019 season. Returning coach Dara Wilder leads the team with help from team captains Theo DeGuzman, Albert Zhu, and Alex Giangrosso. Having a large and highly-experienced team, the Lourdean tennis players expect to do well this season and hope to send several players to sectional conferences.
Boys’ Varsity Golf:
The Boys’ Golf 2019 season is underway. The team has a new head coach for the season, Tim Panzanaro. Coach Panzanaro is the PGA Professional at Casperkill Golf Club and is looking forward to helping the team develop and succeed this year. After winning the league and making it to the conference finals last season, the team is hoping to follow up with another strong season.
Following a 12-7 season and a second consecutive league title, the OLL Baseball Team is hungry for more. A roster that includes 11 seniors is ready to come out and compete. The team is led by Head Coach, Steve Greller, who is assisted by Coach Myles Weiler (‘10) and Coach Andrew Burke (‘10). This season’s captains are seniors Kevin Seckler and Ryan Thomas. Seckler has already committed to continuing his baseball career after high school at Mercy College (Division 2) and hopes to cap off his final year at Lourdes on a successful note.
Varsity Spring Track and Field:
The Varsity Spring Track and Field team has a “need for speed.” The team is led by head coach Mike Slinskey and senior captain Nick Timm. As the first meet approaches, the team hopes to win many races and form a stronger bond as a team, both on and off the track.
For the upcoming 2019 boys’ and girls’ crew season, the teams will be led by new varsity coach Kevin Piotti. The girls’ team will be further assisted by Coach Anna Demczar-Sisung, as well as a new novice coach Patrick Seiler. The teams want to push themselves to ultimately work more cohesively together, while also creating a fun and empowering work environment. The crew teams are in a new league this year which will allow them to participate in more local races against schools from this area.
This year’s Varsity Softball team will be led by Head Coach Taryn Paggi, Assistant Coach Jere Tierney, and Pitching Coach Taylor Snyder. With a total of 6 seniors, the softball team strives this season to grow as a team and to work hard this season, which they hope will lead to winning games and making it far in sectionals. The girls are all very passionate about the sport, so they are expecting a great season ahead. Senior Alyssa Profanato adds, “[The team’s main goal is] to work hard as one well-rounded group that supports and encourages each other to achieve greatness in all aspects, not only as teammates on the field, but also as friends off of the field, making memories we won’t ever forget.”
Varsity Girls’ Golf:
FORE! The Varsity Girls’ Golf Team is excited for the start of a new season ahead of them in this 2019 season. Led by Head Coach Larocca and captains Kayleigh Goebelbecker and Olivia Spagnola, the team is focused on the goal of sending several players to the sectional rounds and eventually to states, in addition to winning a league title.
