The Our Lady of Lourdes Varsity Cheer Team has started their year off with some great hits. Led by Coach Kristi Plass, the cheerleaders have performed their exciting and crowd pleasing routines at our football games. In the winter, the cheerleaders will also be performing at the varsity basketball games.  One of the three seniors on the team, Emily Weickel, shared her experience on her cheer journey. Emily has been on the cheer team since her sophomore year and has contributed so much to the team.

One of her most memorable moments was last year, during a football championship game. Emily remembers this game well because it was extremely cold.  However, everytime Lourdes got the ball, Emily and Coach Plass would get excited and cheer them on, attempting to keep the fans warm with her cheers. Although Lourdes did not win the football game that night, Emily really cherished that moment between her and her coach. Additionally, when asked about her favorite cheers, she responded that they were “Do It” and “Rowdy.” Emily enjoys performing these cheers because they always get the best results from the spectators as these are fan favorites. The “Do It” cheer was performed at this year's Pep Rally. Not only did the cheerleaders perform with amazing energy, but the students and faculty responded with tremendous enthusiasm. On a side-note, when asked if she prefers fall cheer over winter cheer, Emily stated that she likes fall cheer simply because she is a football fan. However, this year, Emily is looking forward to winter cheer as they will be competing at cheer competitions for the first time.

The Lourdes Cheer Team has brought so much to the fall season, and we can not wait to see what they have in store for the winter.
